The power to heal is the power to kill.

In Washington DC, even the hospitals are political—and politics can be deadly. When a young psychotherapist’s patient tells her that she must stop her boss from triggering the apocalypse, she turns to her friend, a streetwise Irish doctor, for support. But when the pair uncovers a Byzantine political plot that leads from their hospital directly to the White House, their struggle to uncover the truth suddenly becomes a fight for their lives.

Anise Eden recently spent some time with The Big Thrill discussing her latest suspense, DEAD SOUND:

What do you hope readers will take away from this book?

DEAD SOUND is a tribute to love that is steadfast and unwavering. With the main characters, there is a strong friendship initially, and once mutual feelings are revealed, there is no going back, even in the face of serious disagreements and significant obstacles. This kind of epic love inspires me more than any other, and I hope it will inspire readers, as well.

On the theme of mental illness, I hope readers will absorb the idea that people are not their illnesses. Rather, we are all complex and unique, and having a diagnosis shouldn’t narrow the definition of who we are.

Was there anything new you discovered, or that surprised you, as you wrote this book?

Thanks to an expert, keen-eyed beta reader, I learned a number of new things about security protocols with regard to entering the White House and the West Wing. I knew security was intense, but I didn’t realize to what extent, nor did my own experience and research teach me all of the ins and outs. Thankfully, with this generous reader’s feedback, I think I finally got it right (fingers crossed!).

Is there a question that you feel is important to you and/or your novel? Write it in below, but be sure to answer it too!

An important question for me, particularly in this information age with its endless sources, is where can we turn for truth? This is a question the characters struggle to answer in DEAD SOUND. They must keep questioning the status quo in the context of a complex reality where few things are black and white. For example, the faith vs reason conundrum; who we give power; and who we choose to trust.
