Sam Nolan returns, only this time he finds himself in the deep mountain wilderness of North Carolina.

Sam Nolan returns, only this time he finds himself in the deep mountain wilderness of North Carolina. Paid to look for a young Cherokee girl who went missing along the Appalachian Trail, Sam begins his adventure in the small towns near Asheville as he attempts to collect information from persons involved with the initial search. It doesn’t take long before he suspects foul play might have been the culprit to the girl’s disappearance, but Sam takes to the mountains anyway, looking for more clues. And what he finds is a world involving a perverted backwoods family, a masterpiece of horror pulled from the pages of the Vietnam War, a ruthless connection to the underworld of big city drug dealing, and a wild finale that just might cost Sam his life.

About the Author

John Steinbeck is my favorite author, so I had fun with two characters in this book, who were hillbilly versions of George and Lennie, from Of Mice and Men. It had been years since I read that book, and I had completely forgotten about a certain detail towards the ending of it. So I was eerily surprised when this detail got written into Wild Men, but I didn't know this until sometime after it was completed, which I then re-read Of Mice and Men. All I can say is that my muse did this.
