US Marshal Madison James still can’t remember the face of the person who shot her, but she’s ready to get back to work. When she and Jonas Quinn go on the hunt for four fugitives wanted in a string of bank robberies, it’s a race to see justice served—and the perpetrators will stop at nothing to avoid getting caught.

Lisa Harris recently spent some time with The Big Thrill discussing her latest romantic suspense, THE CHASE:

Was there anything new you discovered, or that surprised you, as you wrote the book?

I grew up in the PNW and was really excited to set a series there. What I didn’t realize was how much I was going to discover about the area in the process. I went to the San Juan Islands for the first time about four years ago and can’t believe I hadn’t been there before. Most of the ending of the book takes place on the islands. For book three, I explored some of the Olympic Peninsula, which is an amazing mixture of rainforest, mountain ranges, lakes, and beaches. It’s such a beautiful part of the country, and the research I did made me long to go back and visit again.

What attracts you to this book’s genre?

I’ve always loved suspense, especially when it’s coupled with a good love story. It’s a tough balance, but as a reader, that’s what I want—page-turning, with some sweet romance woven in.

Which took shape first?

For this story it was the plot. I was looking for some new ideas and loved the idea of focusing on US Marshals. The research on them was so interesting and turned out to be perfect, especially the fugitive angle. Once I decided on that basic plot, the characters and setting came next.

What was the biggest challenge this book presented?

Because this was a branch of law enforcement I didn’t know much about, I really had to do a lot of research. Besides using the web, I read a book by a US Marshal and was also able to ask some questions to a retired Marshal. I wanted to do them justice while also pen an exciting story line—definitely a challenge.
