Nobody leaves the table until the truth comes out.

“Imbued with emotion and chilling atmosphere, The Last Time We Met elevates the ‘what really happened that night’ story to a whole new level. Locked-room mystery fanatics will be thrilled.”

—Tessa Wegert, author of Death in the Family

Ten years ago, at their regular weekly dinner with friends, Sophie Lind’s fiancé died. After it happened, she moved away, changed her name, and hasn’t seen or spoken to any of those friends since.

Out of nowhere, she receives an invitation from one of the group inviting her to dinner—and not just her, but all the friends who were last together that tragic night. The thing is, every one of them has something to hide. The door is locked (from the outside), the wine is chilled…and there won’t be any secrets left by the time the dessert is served.

Anna E. Wahlgren is a pharmacist by trade but has a passionate interest in psychology and devours psychological thrillers, especially while she was writing The Last Time We Met.

“The idea for this book came when I read an article about a tragic death among friends. I kept wondering how something could go so wrong surrounded by people you know and trust. I also started thinking about the impact that the experience must have had on the remaining friends. Once I did that, my imagination got lost in all sorts of scenarios of what really could have happened.”

The timing was anything but typical. She was working on another book when this one got a hold of her mind.

“This plot just started developing as I was struggling with my other script, and when I realized that the idea was pretty much complete, I decided to stop what I was working on to write this instead. I wrote the first draft in one month.”

She had fun exploring moral ambiguities and everything we think we know (and don’t know!) about other people, even those we consider close friends. “The book focuses on how we all play a small part in things that happen, and that we know very little about what really goes on in other people’s lives. My hope is that readers might think twice the next time they form an opinion about somebody else and understand that nothing is ever completely black and white.”
