New York Times bestselling author Vincent Zandri recently spent some time with The Big Thrill discussing his latest adventure thriller, CHASE BAKER AND THE PYRAMID OF MADNESS.

Can you pinpoint a moment or incident that sparked the idea for this book?

A Facebook friend of mine showed me these old black-and-white photos of an arctic expedition that took place in the early 20th century that allegedly uncovered a civilization so ancient it could be millions or even a billion years old. One pyramid is said to contain prophetic evidence of the coming of Jesus of Nazareth long before he would ever be born or die on the cross. This makes the Vatican very nervous so of course Chase Baker gets in the middle of the whole thing.

A novel is such a major undertaking; there’s the writing of it, of course, then you’re spending months and months revising, polishing, and then promoting it. How did you know this was the book you wanted to spend the next couple of years on?

I’m a pulp speed writer do I can write a full 50-60K novel in just about a month. I can write a novella and even a couple of short stories at the same time.

Were there any particular books, movies, or songs that were knocking around in your head while you were writing this one?

Of course, I’m always thinking Indiana Jones when I write the Chase Baker books. In the summer of 1981 when I was 16 I saw Raiders of the Lost Ark 10 times at the movie theater. I would drag my poor girlfriend at the time. She was a good sport.
