Which took shape first: plot, character, or setting?

I just start with a basic idea and go from there. I don’t want to know what’s going to happen next. The characters determine that for me.

What attracts you to this book’s genre?

I love The Twilight Zone, and this story is entirely inspired by one of the most popular episodes but entirely my own.

What was the biggest challenge this book presented? What about the biggest opportunity?

The biggest challenge was staying true to what we now call the metaverse, whatever that is. But it also presented a great opportunity to do what I wanted with it. It also presented a great vehicle for a “time machine.” People can literally live after they die in the metaverse. Not heaven or hell.
