Boating on the Gulf of Mexico and winning a drawing to be a character in a new novel can be a risky business. Will you become a protagonist or an antagonist? There is no guarantee or control once someone becomes the “lucky” winner.

Hopefully, Margaret “Suzie Bryan” Powers and Kevin “Grieme” Grienne have enjoyed their characterizations. If they don’t, they should stop putting their names in a drawing.

Jeff Zwagerman recently spent some time with The Big Thrill discussing his latest thriller, PROTOCOL:

No spoilers, but what can you tell us about your book that we won’t find in the jacket copy or the PR material?

Recovering Aubrey from the clutches of the state department and taking her back to his mountain home in Colorado seemed harmless enough. No one knew that Kevin Grienne had been watching her and unwittingly was going to insert himself into Zander’s life. Kevin’s darkness had gone unchecked for most of his life, and he always got what he wanted. This time it was Aubrey, but now she would be called Audrey Woods in an effort to hide her from the government. Life in Frisco was a pleasant experience when Zander and Audrey arrived. Their business partnership gave them both something to do, but that turned into another close call for them and their circle of friends. Zander was so busy trying to juggle his relationship that he put his newborn daughter on hold. It might be his biggest mistake to date.

What authors or books have influenced your career as a writer, and why?

Lee Child, C.J. Box, David Baldacci, and Randy Wayne White are just a few. I have enjoyed this genre and enjoy reading about how these masters fix the problems they have created.

Is there a question that you feel is important to you and/or your novel? Write it below but be sure to answer it too!

Q: Will Zander finally find a peaceful ending to his past life with his newly found lover?

A: There are too many “ifs” to answer the question at this point.
