It’s Oktoberfest in Pittsburgh, and brew pub owner Maxine “Max” O’Hara is prepping for a busy month at the Allegheny Brew House. To create the perfect atmosphere for the boozy celebration, Max hires an oompah band. But when one of the members from the band turns up dead, it’s up to Max to solve the murder before the festivities are ruined.

Adding to the brewing trouble, Candy, Max’s friend, is acting suspicious… Secrets from her past are fermenting under the surface, and Max must uncover the truth to prove her friend’s innocence. Making matters worse, Jake’s snooty ex-fiancée shows up in town for an art gallery opening, and she’ll be nothing but a barrel of trouble for Max.

The Big Thrill spent some time with award-winning author Joyce Tremel discussing her latest mystery, A ROOM WITH A BREW:

What do you hope readers will take away from this book?

I hope readers are entertained.

Was there anything new you discovered, or thaat surprised you, as you wrote this book?

I’m always surprised that the characters sometime take over. I try to fit them into what I think should happen and that never turns out well. I’ve learned to just go with it.

No spoilers, but what can you tell us about your book that we won’t find in the jacket copy or the PR material?

That’s a tough question. There are a lot of surprises in this book, especially about a certain character’s past. There’s a little more romance as well.

Joyce Tremel was a police secretary for ten years and more than once envisioned the demise of certain co-workers, but settled on writing as a way to keep herself out of jail. She is the author of the Brewing Trouble mystery series set in Pittsburgh, featuring brewmaster and pub owner, Maxine “Max” O’Hara. Her debut novel, To Brew or Not to Brew (December 2015) was nominated for a 2015 Reviewers’ Choice Award for Best Amateur Sleuth. The second book in the series, Tangled Up in Brew (October 2016) was chosen as a Top Pick by RT Book Reviews and was the winner of the 2016 Reviewers’ Choice Award for Best Amateur Sleuth. The third book, A ROOM WITH A BREW, will be released on October 3, 2017.
