It quickly becomes clear that the volatile leader of Russia is fomenting turmoil in the Middle East in an effort to prop up his own waning power. As the chaos intensifies, Rapp is forced to penetrate enemy-held Iraq posing as an American ISIS recruit. There, he uncovers a plan much more dangerous than he ever expected—one that could have catastrophic global consequences.
Author Kyle Mills shared some insight on his latest novel, ORDER TO KILL, with The Big Thrill:
What do you hope readers will take away from this book?
My dream is that people will find my take on Mitch Rapp as satisfying as they did Vince’s.
How does this book make a contribution to the genre?
My goal is to shed a slightly different light on one of the most iconic characters in the genre—to provide readers a fresh, yet familiar view of Mitch Rapp.
No spoilers, but what can you tell us about your book that we won’t find in the jacket copy or the PR material?
Mitch is finally exploring the possibility of a serious relationship after the death of his wife.
What authors or books have influenced your career as a writer, and why?
I grew up on some of the genre’s early masters—Frederick Forsyth, Robert Ludlum, and James Clavell to name a few. Those early experiences formed my idea of what these kinds of books could be. Later, Tom Clancy put it all together and wrote some of the greatest thrillers of all time. And now a new generation that includes people like Vince, Brad Thor, Harlan Cobin, and Lee Child have put their unique stamp on thrillers.
“Mills does more than just pick up where Flynn left off, he’s elevated this franchise to another level entirely.”
–The Real Book Spy
