In Book II, the Jones’ transition from mild-mannered, middle class, do-no-wrong suburbanites, to something entirely different. Guns, bullets, cremations, money laundering, and a new scheme to create their own new street drug which will rival anything the cartel can deliver, are suddenly in the works.

New York Times bestselling author Vincent Zandri stopped by The Big Thrill to discuss his newest contemporary thriller, AMERICAN CRIME STORY: Book II.

A novel is such a major undertaking; there’s the writing of it, of course, then you’re spending months and months revising, polishing, and then promoting it. How did you know this was the book you wanted to spend the next couple of years on?

I wrote all the books for the American Crime Story series in about two months’ time. The words just flowed out of me. It was tons of fun.

Can you pinpoint a moment or incident that sparked the idea for this book?

To be honest I fell in love with programs like Breaking Bad and Ozark where ordinary people are thrust into extraordinary if not deadly circumstances. It’s interesting to see how they adapt to the situation and even come to thrive amidst the danger.

In addition to a great read, what do you hope readers will take away from this story?

No one is immune to being thrust into situations that are entirely out of the norm. It’s how you react to them that counts the most. You can either run, or embrace it, and even discover that you’re not the person you thought you were. Not by a mile.
