It’s no secret we need water to survive. But what if the water that’s coming from your sink can kill you on the spot?

When two men from very different Albany neighborhoods die identical gruesome deaths from drinking their own tap water, the APD become entirely baffled. They’re also worried that they’re about to have a public panic on their hands. Therefore, they call in PI Steve Jobz to handle the deadly situation, under the radar, and as fast as he can.

Vincent Zandri recently spent some time with The Big Thrill discussing his latest thriller, THE PLUMBER.

Can you pinpoint a moment or incident that sparked the idea for this book?
This is one that came from my warped imagination. Imagine your water supply tainted with hydrochloric acid. Imagine how frightened everyone would be. I’m old enough to remember the Tylenol Killer. I wanted to do something similar.

A novel is such a major undertaking; there’s the writing of it, of course, then you’re spending months and months revising, polishing, and then promoting it. How did you know this was the book you wanted to spend the next couple of years on?
I write a novel per month plus a novella or novelette. I also freelance, but not a lot for obvious reasons. Being prolific comes naturally to me. I also write one clean draft and it’s off to the editor.

When you first created your protagonist for this book, did you see an empty space in crime lit that you wanted to fill? What can you share about the inspiration for that character?
I like real life characters. A PI by the name of Steve Jobz might be expected to be rich and famous. But he’s a regular guy who lives on a houseboat. If he had his druthers he’d be a professional fly fisherman. He’s the opposite of what a Lee Child or Michael Connelly would write.

In addition to a great read, what do you hope readers will take away from this story?
Pure entertainment. I write the chapters in a way that make you want to read just one more…just one more…just one more…It’s purely by design. It keeps me interested as a writer too.
