When a kidnapping goes awry, three desperate characters find themselves trapped inside a remote cabin with a baby and a bag full of money.

Noah is a kidnapper, hired to buy a baby from a human trafficking ring and smuggle her across the Canadian border for a cool half a million dollars. Eve is a teenage runaway, who takes the infant—and the sack full of cash—away from him. Hester is an outcast, living alone in a backwoods cottage, harboring secrets of her own. When their paths cross, it’s anyone’s guess who’ll come out on top.

With the law hot on their trail and the traffickers’ hired guns closing in, this unlikely trio is soon holed up together—and at one another’s throats. They’ll stop at nothing to save their own skins and escape with the loot and child. But which of the greedy three will be the last one standing? One thing’s for sure: no one will emerge unscathed…

Bestselling author Karen Katchur spent some time with TheBigThrill discussing her latest thriller, THE GREEDY THREE. Here is what she had to say:

In addition to a great read, what do you hope readers will take away from this story?

I want readers to have fun with this one, to sit back and enjoy the ride. The characters are quirky, and they behave badly, but I hope readers also find that they have a lot of heart to them as well.

A novel is such a major undertaking; there’s the writing of it, of course, then you’re spending months and months revising, polishing, and then promoting it. How did you know this was the book you wanted to spend the next couple of years on?

Once I understood that I was writing something that could be darkly comedic, I was hooked. I wasn’t under contract at the time, and I think having some freedom allowed me to try something new. I’ve always been a huge fan of crime dramas like Fargo where the characters were so off the wall that you couldn’t help but root for them. I just wanted to have fun with my writing and what better way than to write quirky characters who behaved badly? One by one, the main characters emerged, each of them broken, misguided, and hilariously offbeat. I enjoyed every minute with them. This was the most fun I ever had writing.

Were there any particular books, movies, or songs that were knocking around in your head while you were writing this one?

Absolutely. I rewatched all my favorite crime dramas like Fargo, Ozark, Goodfellas, True Romance, YOU, Dead To Me, Reservoir Dogs etc… I had never written anything funny before let alone violent and funny, so I used these movies for inspiration. It was all a part of my research on how to write humor.

What can you share about what you’re working on next?

I’m working on another crime thriller. That’s all I can say about it as it’s too early in the writing process to give up any details. But I can say this, the new cast of characters are once again unique!
