After years of peace and quiet, Maya Carpenter thinks she’s safe—that her drug-lord father’s world will never catch up with her. Then she’s abducted and secretly stashed on a plane. And once she and the test pilot who finds her land in the Keys, the real threat begins….

Daredevil pilot Connor Jacobson is no one’s hero. And this time, he’s in way over his head. Yet he can’t leave Maya to face danger alone. Besides, he has a few tricks up his sleeve that might keep them safe…as long as he’s willing to put everything at risk, including his heart.

What is the most interesting thing that you discovered while research TREACHEROUS SKIES?

Actually, it was the premise itself that I found interesting and decided to explore that for a possible romantic suspense series. I came across a guy dubbed “Learjet Repo Man” by journalists. This guy is more than your typical repo man in that the high dollar items (Learjets, jumbo jets, luxury yachts) sometimes belong to presidents of third world countries or drug lords in South America. These guys need special skills to get the job done—the same skills found in the marines, FBI and bush pilots all wrapped into one person.

What do you feel is the most important characteristic that your readers will find intriguing about Connor Jacobson?

Connor is a dare devil and a risk taker. With his time in the Air Force as a fighter pilot, he’s a real hero, but he doesn’t see himself that way because he sets a high standard for himself, comparing himself to the heroes in his family. It’s not until he’s forced into an extreme situation that he finally makes the grade in his opinion.

What will readers love about Maya Carpenter?

Maya carries a heavy burden considering her father’s identity, but she’s a strong woman who has worked hard to make a good life for herself, and continues to be strong even when someone is trying to make her pay for a past not of her own making. I think readers will relate well to her need to escape her past.

What draws you to the suspense/thriller genre?

I live with four males who are all about action and adventure, so when we watch a movie it usually includes guns and bombs! I enjoy the edge of the seat tension that keeps me glued to a good thriller.

Which part of this book makes you the most proud? Example, after finishing a certain scene what you tackled that may have been more difficult than the other scenes?

There were a lot of difficult scenes because of the aeronautic elements for which I relied heavily on a couple of pilots for the details. I don’t want to give anything away about the story but I’m most proud of the flying scene near the end of the book.

What do you hope readers will walk away with after reading your book?

That feeling you have when you get off a rollercoaster ride—ha!—and a sense of satisfaction, of knowing that no matter the past, you can overcome.
