Ginny took time out of her busy schedule to sit down with The Big Thrill and discuss her latest novel, LYING, CHEATING, AND OCCASIONALLY… MURDER:

What do you hope readers will take away from this book?

While scientists who attempt to break the genetic codes that unlock the mystery of disease often seem like gods to us, they are all too human and subject to the throes of passion and fury we all experience. Their humanity affects not only the results of their research but all of us, if we take the cures they develop.

Was there anything new you discovered, or that surprised you, as you wrote this book?

I was fascinated with the idea that looking at disease at the molecular level would identify cures for what are currently incurable diseases. There is amazing work being done in the field. I discovered a world of cheating and lying about the reliability of scientific research at the highest levels that made me doubt everything. Danielle Teller, physician and researcher, wrote: “Something is rotten in the state of biomedical research… we know in our hearts that the majority or even the vast majority of our research claims are false.”

No spoilers, but what can you tell us about your book that we won’t find in the jacket copy or the PR material?

In LYING, CHEATING, AND OCCASIONALLY… MURDER, the romance between Detective Sam Lagarde and lovely Beverly Wilson, who met when Lagarde investigated the murder of Beverly’s grandson (Cromwell’s Folly), has bloomed off screen and when the story opens, they are living together. Their love affair stands in stark contrast to Charlotte Rolle’s romps with anyone who comes her way.
