Debra Webb’s Faces of Evil comes to paperback in a huge promotion by Grand Central Publishing!

Debra Webb has written and published more than one hundred novels. Romantic suspense is her first love and developing series is her trademark. The Colby Agency series she writes for Harlequin Intrigue has stood the test of time, going into its thirteenth year and more than fifty installments—the largest number of books in an original author series in Harlequin’s history! But Debra recently found amazing success with a mainstream series called the Faces of Evil. I caught up with Debra this month for the paperback release of the first three installments of her new chilling series.

RT Book Reviews Magazine called the protagonist, Jess Harris, one of the toughest, smartest, most stubborn lady cops to strut the pages lately. Tells us a little about Jess.

Jessie Lee Harris has been living in my head for several years. She finally pitched a fit and I had to write her. Jess’s parents passed away when she was very young and she and her sister spent their formative years in foster homes. Upon graduating high school, Jess couldn’t wait to put her hometown of Birmingham, Alabama, in her rearview mirror. She and her high school sweetheart, Dan Burnett, left for college full of passion and with big dreams. But passion sometimes fizzles and dreams don’t always come true. Four years later Dan returned to Birmingham and Jess went on to become a celebrated profiler for the Bureau.

Fast-forward twenty years and things have changed again. Jess’s personal and professional life are crashing down around her. On administrative leave after a bumbled investigation that resulted in a suspected serial killer going free, Jess welcomes an unexpected invitation to escape from her current reality. Her expertise is needed on a case involving four missing young women. The problem is, the case is in Birmingham and the top cop is Chief of Police Dan Burnett.

Jess finds herself spiraling into the past she thought she left behind. And if having sparks fly between her and Dan isn’t frustrating and distracting enough, the serial killer who got away has followed her to Birmingham!

You mentioned that Jess had been hanging around in your head for quite some time, is this series one you’ve been working on for several years?

Absolutely. Several years ago I developed a series concept called the Scales of Justice. The idea was to have a series where each book focused on a different level of that scale, beginning with the least heinous of intents. The Scales of Justice seemed to scream courtroom and that side of justice which wasn’t where I wanted to go. After much consideration, I came up with the Faces of Evil. The stories are more about the motive for the crime than the crime itself. Of course, the goal is to solve the case but in Jess’s opinion the crime is all about motive. The motive, she swears, will reveal the identity of the one committing the crime.

As a writer, I found the concept immensely interesting. The Faces of Evil series will span twelve books and Jess and Dan will be the main protagonists for the entire series. Their personal relationship as well as their professional one will evolve over those twelve installments. Another cool and challenging aspect of the stories is that the next book takes up right where the last left off. I wanted to show the day-to-day life of these characters during and after the cases they investigate. I’m also working extra hard to create unique villains and plot twists.

You mentioned that Grand Central is doing a special paperback launch for the series. Tell us more about the big release day.

I’m very excited about launch day! It’s March 26th and the first three books in the series, OBSESSION, IMPULSE and POWER, will all be released that day for only $3.99 each! When was the last time you bought a paperback for under five dollars? It’s an unheard of promotion. Grand Central is really going the distance with the series.

What’s next for the Faces of Evil?

RAGE, book four, will be released on April 30. Then comes REVENGE on July 30 and RUTHLESS hits the shelves on August 27. I’m working on VICIOUS, book seven, right now!

Debra Webb, born in Alabama, wrote her first story at age nine and her first romance at thirteen. It wasn’t until she spent three years working for the military behind the Iron Curtain—and a five-year stint with NASA—that she realized her true calling. A collision course between suspense and romance was set. Since then she has penned nearly 100 novels including her internationally bestselling Colby Agency series. Her debut romantic thriller series, the Faces of Evil, propelled Debra to the top of the bestselling charts. Don’t miss a single installment of this fascinating and chilling twelve-book series!
